13 - 14 Weeks

We had a shower on our 13th week birthday and our Baptism was on the 14th week. We turned 3 months on March 5th!!Below are some photos highlights and here is the link to the Picasa album:

12 Weeks

The girls turned 12 weeks on Saturday, Feb 27th. Usually I don't post until the end of the week, but these were too cute. We get lots of cute clothes from my mom's friend Sharon's daughter who had twins last year. Thanks Shelley!!! And just trying the Moby wrap that Leilani let me borrow. Love it. Makes me feel pregnant, but without the morning sickness!! Maggie is on the left in the twin pic. I honestly can't remember who was in the Moby wrap!

9 Week Pictures

I got food poisoning Sat night, so it's been a fun weekend! I finally have some time to post some very cute photos of the girls. Here are the 9 week ones. Most are pre-bath photos, the other one is the double feeding time...mommy's favorite. Maggie is pretty much always on the left.

M&M 9 Weeks

2 Month Dr. Visit

It started out as an emotional day. I was feeding both at the same time which is challenging but great to have both of them sitting/lying around me. They both fell asleep and I had a moment to ponder this amazing miracle!! Gosh how I love them. I catch Larry saying "I just love you so much" all the time.

This afternoon was Maggie and Mary's 2 month Dr. visit. Dad couldn't make it so it was just us girls. We are fortunate that there is a Kaiser in downtown Alameda. Here is how the girls weighed in:

Maggie: 8lbs 11.2 oz
Mary: 9lbs 3 oz

The Dr. said they are further along than he expected. Since they are a about 3 weeks Adjusted Age (For preemies you start counting their age from when they should have been born at 40 weeks) They are in the 50% for their Adjusted Age. Yeah!!!!

Just wanted to report that. Will post photos tomorrow, when I have some sleep under my belt!!

Our 8th Week

So much has happened this past week.

They are over 8lbs now - they feel huge!

They are smiling a lot and playing

They increased their formula intake by about 40 ml at each feeding!

Mom has gone crazy with taking the girls out on the town

• Last week, I met up with Stephanie and her adopted twins Michael and Carmel. They were born 5 days before mine!!! We went on a walk along the lagoons to the nearby mall and ate lunch at La Pinata. First time at a restaurant and all went well. My girls just slept!! Oh how they love their walks and noisy places.


• Last weekend we went to the Pleasanton Mall from about 11am to 5pm. We had two feedings in the Nordstrom's Women's Lounge (had my own little alcove). We had lunch at PF Changs and then realized we may not make it home for the 5:30 feeding and went to the Babby's to feed. The kids got to see them for the first time. I thought Patsi was going to pass out she was so excited! She is clearly ready for their new baby in May.
• Monday we went to Tot Tank, our local baby store and this was the first time I had taken the girls in the car without dad. OK, so it was only about 2 miles away, but it was a huge deal. I normally sit in between them and am on spit up/choking patrol. I had to buy mirrors so I would get out more often. We found some great big ones at Tot Tank...I felt more confident after installing them. We then went to lunch at Shay's Cafe. My past SF roomate Wendy owns it. She and her son Devon met us there and we all ate together.


• Tuesday we went to our first Twins by the Bay new/expectant moms meeting at The Tulip Grove in Montclair (Oakland). I tried to send "avoid highway" directions to my phone, but they converted back to freeway, so I was forced to brave the 580 and 13. Got there fine and found parking spot right out front. We met about 7 sets of twins and 3 expectant twin moms (think we scared them - one almost fainted) I was overwhlemed by how challenging the 6 month old twins looked...yikes. Mine were little angels yet again and slept, changed and fed with no hiccups! Four of us went to lunch at a Mexican restaurant ...picture 4 long double strollers around the table.


• Also on Tuesday, I had a visit from Monica and her 3 week old son Austin. Oh my, what a cutie!! Full head of hair and adorable face!!! I told her she was insane...she made us dinner and brought other groceries...and came from Menlo Park...and just delivered 3 weeks ago...Wow! Austin had to eat so we had time to hang out...what fun!


• Tuesday night was also the first night for our Nanny Katie (or Katie Nana - any Mary Poppins fans?) She made the girls the most adorable dresses and washed bottles and did laundry, all while staying up all night and feeding the girls
• Wednesday, we took Maggie and Mary for a walk to the store. It's so great that Safeway and CVS are only a 15 minute walk from home. In the afternoon, our social worker, Christina came for a visit. We have 4 visits before we go to court in May and finalize the adoption. It went very well!


• Thursday was yet another outing back to Tot Tank where a New Mothers group was meeting at 11. There were over 8 women and their little ones all around our age. It made me feel good that I was handling two while some were stuggling with one. I went out to lunch with Christina and her daughter at, yes, La Pinata again.


• Christen who has 3 children made us this amazing steak dinner...I swore she picked it up at some fancy restaurant, but come to find that she made it. Amazing! We got to visit a but with her and her sleeping Matthew.


• Today, Friday...I was invited to a play date in Foster City and offered a ride, but thought we would take it easy. Then all of a sudden the girls were a little fussy and I knew the car and stroller would work wonders, so I again had a moment of insanity and we ventured out for quick trip to Bay Street in Emerville. We did lots of window shopping and ate lunch at PF Changs. I almost took them to see Sherlock homes, but our feeding schedule didn't work well with the movie times...dangit!


• So, now it's Saturday morning and I should be sleeping, but wanted to write about this week. I will post some pictures here soon!!!

7 Weeks - Deep Thoughts from Maggie and Mary

M&M 7 weeks

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for all the prayers, kind words and help you have given to our parents. We are doing really well and love our new home. We turned 7 weeks on Saturday and we are around 7.5 (Maggie) and 8 lbs (Mary) now. Mom weighs us on the scale with her to make sure we are gaining weight. Last night was our first night with the night nanny. The one mom hired was sick and luckily God sent another that mom knows through a friend. She was great and we ate and slept very well. More importantly, mom slept 7 hours which makes her more relaxed and happy during the day.

This past week a new second cousin was born - Paige Shannon Williams. This is our Great Aunt Cathie's (nana's twin) son, Kevin and his wife Casey's new baby. We are so excited to meet her!!!
Mom says she is loading some pictures here, but hasn't had time to figure out the videos on their new HD camera. As you can see we did have a great time with Papa and Nana Ricketts this past week. Mom is not sure how she is going to wash all the bottles and clothes as well as make meals and clean dishes now that they are gone. Luckily some friends have been coming over to help with that while Dad is away for a couple days.

We love all of you and can't wait to meet you one day.

5 Weeks Old

We are doing well. Mom and Dad still feed us every 3 hours around the clock. We weighed in at 6lbs 6oz (Maggie) and 6lbs 13oz (Mary) on Friday. Mom and Dad were really excited. Not sure what all the fuss was all about.

Meet the Parente Twins

We are overjoyed and honored to announce the arrival of Margaret Ann (on left) and Mary Christina Parente. They are a true gift from God and are absolutely beautiful. We will be adopting them when all legal paperwork and waiting period is over.

As most of you know, it's been over 4 years of praying and hoping for children. We have had many trials and lessons along the way. God apparently had something amazing planned and we are still in awe! God is just showing off again and letting us know that He always has a plan even if it's not our timing.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your prayers and support over the years. God has answered your prayers for us twofold!!!! We truly appreciate it and hope to return the favor!!

I am sure you are wondering, how and when did this happen? Here is the short story:

December 11th: We received an email from our Adoption Agency asking if we would be open to be shown to a woman who had given birth to twin girls. She was unable to care for them and wanted them to go to a Christian family who would "love them as their own." They were born premature at 34 weeks. They would be released from the hospital December 26th. We prayed about it and soon said "Yes".

December 17th: The birthmother and two of her friends were shown adoption profiles for 8 families, one of which was ours.

December 18th 4:00pm: We were on the way to Orange County, getting in the Security line at Oakland airport when Erin got a call on her phone. It was the Adoption Agency informing us that we had been chosen. The birthmother and her friends had chosen us!!! We were then informed that the girls (Twin A and Twin B) were doing so well that they would be discharged Sunday December 20th. Erin broke down crying in the airport, said "Congratulations Daddy" and after lots of hugs, we had to quickly get our bags off the plane. We headed back to the airport parking lot to get our car and went home to prepare. We figured we might want to get one last good night sleep.

December 19th: We had our first of many trips to Babies R Us to get another car seat and a few other things we thought we might need. We then drove out to Modesto where the girls were born. We met them at 5pm and right away we were in love!!! They were so adorable all wrapped up in their hospital footprint swaddles, knit caps and blankies (made my hospital volunteers) The Dr. wanted us to feed them for a couple days to get used to their eating styles. We also gave them baths. We named them that first night - Margaret Ann (Twin A) and Mary Christina (Twin B)

December 21st: They were discharged Monday to give us more time for instruction by the amazing nursing staff. The birthmother felt it would be too hard for her to meet us, but we did get to meet the woman who was instrumental in helping her choose our agency and make an adoption plan. This woman was filled with the Holy Spirit. She told us about how she read each of the 8 profiles word for word and God had placed us in her heart. But the birthmother had to make the decision for herself and she also chose us. The social worker gave us a message from the birthmother which was " Thank you so much." We were overwhelmed with gratitude for her loving sacrifice and through tears expressed how she had blessed us and made about 200+ peoples Christmas this year. The woman asked if she could pray with us and we continued to cry during her amazing prayer for the "little angels" and us. We also thanked her daughter who was there who just got back from Iraq...we cried again. Then we got the girls ready and loaded in the car. We left around 2:30pm to bring them to their new home. Mom sat between the girls to make sure they were OK on the rainy drive home.

December 21st - Now: We are enjoying the twins immensely, but are very tired. They have a very strict feeding, bathing, burping, changing, sleeping schedule. We are spending time bonding with them as much as possible. Right now they mainly sleep all day and night. Please see an introduction to the girls below and many photos below that. Enjoy!!

We know it's tempting to ask specific questions about their parents (and I know we have done it with other adoption situations!), but we do not discuss this with anyone. This is out of respect for the biological parents and the twins. Their unselfish and loving act has made us a family. We know they are truly blessed for their kindness!

"A simple choice of words can reveal our views and communicate a great deal to a listener. We encourage social workers, adoptive parents, birthparents, board members, volunteers, and supporters to use language that accurately reflects the reality of adoption. The following list is not exhaustive, but it reflects some of the more common words that we encounter as we minister to birth and adoptive parents in Jesus’ name."

One Month Old

A little glimpse at our new life with the twins. They turned one month on Sat, January 2nd. They are now officially at 38 weeks gestation which means it would be best if they were still in the womb, but they got a 4 week head start on life.
They had their first walk in the stroller (5 yr old donation, a little wobbly, but hey, it works for now!).

Peter's 1st Birthday

One of our first parties was at John and Heidi's to celebrate their son Peter's 1st birthday. We were so glad that we could be there! His sister Anna was just as excited to celebrate with good food and cake!

Larry met John and Heidi when he moved to the San Francisco in '94. They brought him to St. Dominic's for the first time and John sponsored Larry as he became Catholic.

Just a little Pre-Christmas visit to our good friends, the Babbys. It was Patsy's first Christmas.

We've Moved....Back

After a year and a few months, we have moved back to our home in Alameda. Larry secured a new position at Merrill Lynch Trust Company in San Francisco and I found yet another position with Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City.

Our time down in Agoura Hills was enjoyable. We were minutes from the beach, an hour from my family and we had 340 sunny days of the year (layout time for my sun worshipping husband). We also met some wonderful people that we will keep in touch with. In spite of all the positives, we truly missed our faith community, godsons and home in the Bay Area.

The Getty Villa, Malibu

We had to pay a visit to the newly renovated Getty Villa before we moved. The last time I was here was during a 3rd grade field trip. Larry went crazy with the art/sculpture photos. I fell in love with the water lilies. You can bet I will be using these as inspiration for my paintings. Has it been done before??? ;o)

Disneyland with the Babbys

The Babbys planned a Disneyland trip for the boys before the birth of their sister. I was glad to be able to join them for the day. It was fun to play tour guide and introduce my godson, Brandon and favorite big brother, Nathan to Larry and my favorite place. Sheila was a trooper! At around 8 months pregnant, she walked all day for 3 day straight!!!
